Ilex

Ilex aquifolium Argentea Variegata

This Holly produces masses of bright red berries in autumn to winter and lustrous, spiny, silver-margined, dark green leaves, purplish-pink when young. This excellent, silver-margined holly makes an excellent, evergreen specimen tree for a sunny, medium-sized garden. It’s particularly suitable for urban or coastal sites since it copes well with pollution and salt-laden air. Can be pruned to make an excellent hedge or used for topiary.

Ultimate height  10m  (30ft),  spread  3m  (10ft).

Ilex J. C. Van Tol

One of the best named female clones of holly, a small evergreen tree or shrub of open habit with purple young shoots. Leaves ovate, almost spineless, glossy dark green. Flowers small, dull white; berries large and abundant, bright red. Makes excellent hedge.

Ultimate height  8m  (24ft),  spread  3m  (10ft).

Ilex Koeheneana Chestnut Leaf

This is a fast growing female holly, which is more tree like, more open and branched than other hollies with large sweet chestnut like leaves up to 15cm long.  Glossy evergreen leaves offset the prolific crop of crimson berries later in the season. we also supply this variety as  Pleached specimens (see Pleached).,
Ultimate height  10m  (31ft),  spread  4m  (13ft).

Ilex meserveae Heckenfee

This variety is a strictly upright growing form, very hardy. The leaves are glossy dark green and finely serrated, not prickly. Produces masses of orange red berries, which last well on the bush.

Ultimate height  6m  (19ft),  spread  2m  (10ft).
