Halesia Carolina (Snowdrop Tree)
A fast-growing medium-sized deciduous tree, often broad-crowned, with oval leaves turning yellow in autumn, and hanging, bell-shaped white flowers sometimes tinged pink, followed by 4-winged pale green fruits. Requires deep rich woodland type soil, sometimes difficult to establish but worth the effort.
Ultimate height 8m (24ft), spread 10m (31ft).
Halesia monticola
A stunning shapely large shrub or small tree, the largest of this Halesia genus. Abundant clusters of beautiful snowdrop-like pendular flowers adorn the branches in May and June, followed by winged fruit. The simple green leaves are stunning in autumn, turning a brilliant yellow, a creating real feature for your garden. Easy to grow.
Ultimate height 3m (10ft), spread 2m (6ft).
