A small-medium sized tree or large shrub, with a loose open habit, and 3-lobed leaves 2.5 – 6cm across. Flowers appear in May: small, numerous, and whitish in colour. Autumn colour ranges from olive green to scarlet, and ultimately an exquisite orange-yellow.

A medium-sized deciduous tree with a compact rounded crown, and cork-like bark. Mid-green leaves have 3 or 5 blunt lobes, and can be up to 10cm across, turning yellow and red in Autumn. Insignificant flowers are produced in Spring, small and yellow-green in colour, forming typical winged maple fruits. It is suitable for wildlife hedges.

A stunning cultivar of the field maple, producing bright red-purple leaves in the Spring which turn to a deep green as the season progresses. It is densely branched, and pyramidal in habit. A wide egg-shaped crown, and striking leaves which emerge blood red in the Spring before fading to the attractive yellow followed by light green in the Summer. Leaves return to yellow in the Autumn. This tree prefers a sheltered spot, and moist but well-drained soil in full sun, to achieve the best foliage colour.

A small multi-stemmed tree, which grows best in a sheltered position. Leaves of the common variety are green and 7-lobed, although many cultivars exist with red or variegated delicately dissected leaves. Autumn colour can vary from year to year, ranging from golden yellow, through dazzling orange, to deep red.

This British native is a large imposing tree, which grows vigorously in its youth. It has a wide oval habit, and leaves that are large and dark green, with an attractive downy grey underside, turning to yellow in Autumn. It is a extremely resilient tree and will thrive in almost any conditions; direct sunlight, exposed conditions, salt laden wind and poor soil. Members of this species are harmful to Horses.

A small slow-growing cultivar of the Sycamore, with a rounded head; it is normally grafted at the top of the 5ft stem. In Summer the leaves fade to a lighter green, gradually darkening as Autumn arrives, accompanied by clusters of attractive red winged seeds. Unlike many other variegated trees, it does not suffer from reversion to green over time. Growth is vigorous, and it will become a rounded tree at maturity. Like the Sycamore, it is particularly useful in windy, exposed and coastal conditions, and will thrive in most soils.
