Paulownia tomentosa (Foxglove Tree)
A fast-growing, medium-sized deciduous tree with very large heart-shaped leaves, emerging light green in Spring before darkening through Summer, and finally turning golden brown in Autumn. One of the most appealing features of this tree are its beautifully scented, lilac-coloured flowers, which stand up like foxgloves, all over the bare branches in early spring. These are followed later in the summer by clusters of long seed pods, which open in the Autumn to disperse their plentiful winged seeds remaining on the tree into the winter months. Exceptionally hardy, it grows in almost any type of soil.
Ultimate height 15m (50ft), Spread 15m (50ft).
