How are trees sized — what do the measurements mean?
Smaller trees — typically up to around 1.5–2 metres in height — are sold by height in centimetres (e.g. 60–90cm, 100–125cm). Larger trees are sized by girth, which is the circumference of the trunk measured at 1 metre from the ground, expressed in centimetres (e.g. 8–10cm girth, 12–14cm girth). Girth is the industry-standard measure for larger specimen trees and gives a reliable indication of a tree's age and maturity.
